It is not often in McLean do you find a house for under $700 grand but it’s a nice thing when it happens. And this Kent Gardens home located at 1843 Westmoreland is as cozy as it is cottage-like. Built in 1953, this red brick house is nestled in the McLean High School Triangle.
Word is… the master suite is spacious with a jetted tub clad master-bath. Metro’s proposed expansion through Tysons Corner had area residents lining-up on opposite sides. The issue? An above ground rail or underground tunnel. Some felt the underground tunnel for the Dulles Corridor Metro-rail Project was a good idea but too cost prohibitive. Others felt an above ground rail might be unsightly. More information on the progress of the project is available on-line: http://www.tysonstunnel.org/imaglyhrouges is /pdfs/TysonsTunnel_RefutingTop10Argue.pdf

One look at this Hunt Country Estate and you might think its typical of a property in Middleburg. Now, while many love the charm of Middleburg, and the horses, for some who drive to the city regularly, Middleburg means a little bit more of a commute than we’d like.
So here’s an alternative — A gracious home that appears to be fashioned after a historic Middleburg property–only its located in McLean.

If you’ve ever wondered just how McLean came to be named McLean here’s a brief answer: Prior to the early 1900’s there were two separate communities — Lewinsville and Langley. Around 1910 the two areas became one which is what we now know as McLean named after John McLean then the publisher of the Washington Post.
Other interesting facts about McLean: Thespian Stockard Channing once attended the prestigious Madeira School and Forrest Mars Jr., #58 on the Forbes list of The World’s Billionaires calls McLean home. Never heard of Mars? Think Milky Way, Snickers and Three Musketeers bars.
Say you’re not a candy tycoon but you desire a life just as sweet? Consider one Maplewood beauty. Built in 1997, this nearly 7000 square foot “Baldwin” model is located in the luxurious gated Maplewood subdivision.

Manicured lawns, lush parks, hiking trails and some of the best schools in the region are just a few of the reasons people choose to live in McLean. Another reason residents adore McLean is: close proximity to “the city.”
If you’ve never ventured to McLean, its definitely worth the trip. Just a short distance from Washington, D.C., some McLean residents skip the drive in favor of biking to work. This time of year the ride along The George Washington Parkway is particularly scenic.
What is really charming about McLean is that the area maintains a small-town, homey feel in the midst of perhaps the most opulent real estate the metropolitan area has to offer.
There’s no way around it – like Greenwich, Connecticut, McLean is an affluent suburb. And this 7 bedroom 1.16 acre home located at 8917 Brook Road in McLean is part of the new development happening in Woodside Estates.
Amenities include: Master suite with sitting room, fireplace, morning room, enormous walk in closets and exquisite spa-like bath. This mini-estate lists for $4,500.000.

While much of Washington is out of commission with the flu (myself included) there have been more than a few real estate “bargains” hitting the market. First and foremost, it goes without saying that a “bargain” in this city is not what one would pay for a house in oh lets say North Carolina for example. In fact folks from the Tar Heel state would sooner abandon their Carolina blue than pay $600,000 for a small rambler.
Alas, this blog focuses on McLean. And in this posh upscale Northern Virginia enclave $627,960 is really a deal. In fact, the price on one 4 bedroom, 2500 square foot, Potomac Hills rambler has been reduced a whopping $33,000.
Located at 6177 Hardy Drive, this “fixer upper” is as cute as can be and is close to the George Washington Parkway and the beltway. Rush right over… at this price it won’t last for long.
